Reading a number is only the beginning.

A laboratory document carries more than a result. Dates, measurement names, units, reference intervals, and the document itself all contribute to the record. The planned ingestion workflow must preserve that structure.

Uncertainty must survive extraction.

If a value is difficult to read, a unit is absent, or a report date is ambiguous, the system should surface that limitation. A confident explanation cannot repair an unreliable source record.

Normalization should remain inspectable.

Grouping equivalent measurements can make a history easier to navigate. But every transformation needs to remain traceable, and incompatible records must not be merged without a justified method.

The source stays close.

Our intended design keeps the original report accessible alongside extracted data. This gives the reviewer a route back to the evidence whenever a value needs checking.
